Born to Heal
From the ages of 4 to 8 all I wanted for Christmas was a doctor’s kit. I was my happiest when I was slapping a Band-Aid on someone or listening to their heart with my toy stethoscope. In my teens, all my friends sought me out to talk to about their problems. My best friend once wrote in a card, “You know my heart better than I do myself. “ It seems I was destined to be a healer and counselor from the start.
I did go to nursing school and became a Registered Nurse. I absolutely loved anatomy, physiology and microbiology. Once I started working in a hospital though, I realized nursing was not my passion. Passing out medications didn’t feel like I was healing anything. In fact, I felt in my heart I was doing more harm than good.
From Nursing to Counseling
What I did love about nursing though was talking to my patients and their families about the ways the illness impacted their lives. I felt so incredibly honored to help families during and after the death of a loved one. So, I went on to pursue my other passion, counseling, and earned a Master of Social Work degree from the University of South Florida (USF).
My very first job after graduating was at our local hospice in the Children and Family Support Program. Here I offered counseling support to children who were affected by a death. After a couple of years, I moved to the Pediatric Department. Working with families who have a child with a terminal illness is a whole different ballgame! I also counseled families who had lost a child due to sudden death. As you can imagine, having a child die can be very traumatic, and I felt ill equipped to alleviate this trauma.

and My Own Healing
Thankfully, the International Trauma Institute, headed by the famed traumatologist, Charles Figley, had just moved to my old Alma Mater. I figured once I had my certification as a Traumatologist, I would have all the tools I needed to help my clients work through their traumatic grief.
It was here that I was introduced to the mother of all meridian-based energy psychology techniques, Thought Field Therapy (TFT). Though very skeptical at first, I tried this WeiRd tapping technique, and lo and behold I kept getting results. Since it can be self-applied, I went to work on the pain in my hips and back due to a severe scoliosis. The results convinced me that, like every other form of matter, our bodies are made of energy and profound healing can take place when we work at this very basic level.
I have since spent years learning and mastering the Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) from founder Gary Craig, and eventually became certified as a trainer through the Association of Acupuncture Meridian Energy Techniques (AAMET). I have gone on to be certified as a practitioner and trainer of Matrix Reimprinting which is an advanced form of EFT, and have since also become a certified practitioner in The Emotion Code and The Body Code System. These tools have become invaluable in the work I do with my clients and have greatly facilitated my own healing as well.
Since 2002, I have helped hundreds of people heal from all sorts of pain – from posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) to severe chronic back pain. Since working with The Body Code System, my spine is straightening – without physical intervention!
As I look back at that little girl who loved to listen to the hearts of others, I would tell her, “This is your greatest gift as the healer you were destined to become.”
